Chili Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (or turkey)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (15 oz) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 (15 oz) can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 (15 oz) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)

Optional Toppings

  • Shredded cheese
  • Sour cream
  • Chopped green onions
  • Avocado

Instructions

  1. Heat Oil and Sauté Aromatics: Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add diced onion and minced garlic, sauté for about 2 minutes until fragrant.
  2. Cook the Meat: Add ground beef or turkey and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain excess grease if needed for a leaner dish.
  3. Toast the Spices: Stir in chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Cook for 1 minute to release and enhance the flavors of the spices.
  4. Add Beans and Tomato Ingredients: Mix in the drained kidney beans, black beans, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and broth, stirring well to combine everything evenly.
  5. Simmer the Chili: Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook uncovered for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking and to blend flavors.
  6. Adjust Seasoning: Taste the chili and adjust seasoning if needed by adding more salt, pepper, or spices according to preference.
  7. Serve: Serve the chili hot with your choice of optional toppings such as shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped green onions, or avocado to enhance flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Drain excess grease after browning the meat for a leaner dish.
  • Optional cayenne pepper can be added for extra heat.
  • Top with cheese, sour cream, green onions, or avocado for added flavor and texture.
