Ingredients

Units Scale

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked brown rice
  • 1 cup pure pumpkin purée (not pie filling — plain, canned or fresh)
  • 1/2 lb ground turkey or lean ground beef, cooked and drained
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric

Instructions

  1. Cook Brown Rice: Cook your brown rice first — about 45 minutes on a low simmer so it gets tender all the way through.
  2. Cook Meat: While that’s going, brown your ground meat in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it into small crumbles. Drain any excess fat completely.
  3. Combine Ingredients: In a large pot, combine the cooked rice, meat, pumpkin purée, and chicken broth over low heat. Stir everything together until it reaches that thick, orange stew consistency you can see in the photo — no runny spots, just a cohesive, hearty mix.
  4. Add Final Ingredients: Add the coconut oil and turmeric at the very end, stirring them in off the heat so the nutrients stay intact.
  5. Cool: Let the mixture cool completely before serving. I cannot stress this enough — I once rushed this step and my dog burned her tongue and looked at me like I’d personally betrayed her. Never again.
  6. Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days, or freeze in ½ cup portions for up to 3 months.
  7. Serve: Serve at room temperature. Always check with your vet before switching your dog’s diet, especially if she has any existing health conditions.
