Ingredients
1/2cup unsalted butter
1cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
1 loaf thick-cut brioche or challah bread
5 large eggs
1cup heavy cream
1cup whole milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
Melt butter and caramelize sugar: Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar and corn syrup until smooth. Pour into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
Arrange bread: Slice bread into thick slices and arrange over the caramel layer, slightly overlapping.
Make custard: In a large bowl, whisk eggs, heavy cream, milk, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
Soak bread: Pour custard evenly over the bread, pressing down lightly to soak.
Refrigerate overnight: Cover and refrigerate overnight (at least 8 hours).
Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes until golden and set.
Serve: Let cool slightly before serving, spooning caramel sauce from the bottom over each portion.
Notes
Refrigerate the assembled dish overnight to allow the bread to soak fully, creating a creamy texture.
Use thick-cut brioche or challah for best results and a rich flavor.
