Units Scale

Ingredients

  • 4 skin-on salmon fillets, about 6 ounces each
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (preferably reduced-sodium)
  • 3 tablespoons honey (raw or pure)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated (optional but recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced (for garnish)
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade. In a mixing bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the Salmon. Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Place them skin-side down in a shallow dish or zip-top bag.
  3. Marinate the Salmon. Pour the marinade over the salmon, ensuring all pieces are coated. Let marinate for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Heat the Pan. Heat a non-stick skillet or cast iron pan over medium-high heat for 2-3 minutes until hot but not smoking.
  5. Cook the Salmon Skin-Side Down. Remove salmon from marinade, reserving the liquid. Place fillets skin-side down in the pan.
  6. Cook Undisturbed. Cook undisturbed for 4-5 minutes until skin crisps and edges turn opaque.
  7. Flip and Glaze. Flip each fillet carefully using a fish spatula. Pour reserved marinade over the top.
  8. Finish Cooking and Glaze. Cook for another 3-4 minutes, spooning glaze over salmon occasionally until glaze thickens and coats the fish.
  9. Check Doneness. Check for doneness: salmon should be opaque, flake easily, and remain moist inside.
  10. Serve. Transfer salmon to plates and garnish with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds.

Notes

  • Letting the salmon marinate for at least 10 minutes enhances the flavor.
  • Use a fish spatula for easier flipping without breaking the fillets.
  • Optional garnishes like toasted sesame seeds add extra texture and flavor.
