1 large egg
1cup breadcrumbs (fresh or panko)
2cups marinara sauce
1cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2cup grated parmesan cheese
4 sub rolls, split and toasted
Fresh basil, chopped (for garnish)
1lb ground beef or a mix of beef and pork (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp Italian seasoning
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a bowl, mix ground meat (if using), egg, breadcrumbs, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper until just combined.
Form mixture into 12–15 small meatballs. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes or until cooked through.
In a saucepan, heat marinara sauce. Add cooked meatballs and simmer for 5–10 minutes to absorb flavor.
Place 3–4 meatballs into each toasted sub roll. Spoon over additional marinara sauce.
Top each with shredded mozzarella and a sprinkle of parmesan cheese.
Place sandwiches under a broiler for 2–3 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
Garnish with fresh basil and serve hot.
Notes
Use store-bought meatballs for quicker prep.
Toast the rolls to prevent sogginess from the marinara.
Try adding sautéed onions or peppers for extra flavor.
