This warm and gooey caramel apple cookie skillet is the perfect fall-inspired dessert. A soft and chewy brown sugar cookie dough is baked with tender apple slices and topped with a decadent caramel drizzle. Served straight from the skillet, it’s a rustic, shareable treat that’s even better with vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 apple, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • Optional: extra apple slices and cinnamon sugar for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a cast iron skillet.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Gradually add to wet ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  5. Press the cookie dough evenly into the bottom of the skillet.
  6. Arrange apple slices on top in a circular pattern. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar if desired.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and set in the center.
  8. Drizzle warm caramel sauce over the top and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve warm straight from the skillet, optionally with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith for contrast to the sweet cookie base.
  • Make it extra gooey by swirling some caramel into the dough before baking.
  • Great for holidays, dinner parties, or cozy nights in.
  • Leftovers can be reheated in the skillet or microwave.
