Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion (sliced)
  • 8 ounces mushrooms (sliced)
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

Instructions

  1. Prepare the patties
In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Mix until uniform. Form into four patties.
  2. Heat the skillet
Add olive oil to a large skillet over medium heat. Let it warm before adding patties for even cooking.
  3. Brown the patties
Cook patties 4–5 minutes per side until browned. Remove from skillet and place on a plate to rest while making gravy.
  4. Cook onions and mushrooms
Add sliced onions and mushrooms to skillet. Cook until soft and lightly browned, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.
  5. Make the gravy
Sprinkle flour over onions and mushrooms. Stir and cook 1–2 minutes. Slowly add beef broth and Dijon mustard. Stir until smooth and thick.
  6. Return patties to skillet
Place browned patties back into gravy. Simmer gently 5–7 minutes to absorb flavor and heat through completely.
  7. Check seasoning
Taste the gravy and add salt or pepper if needed. Ensure patties are tender and sauce is rich and flavorful.
  8. Serve
Spoon patties with gravy onto plates. Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or vegetables. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
