For the Musubi:
- 2 cups cooked sushi rice
- 1 can Spam (cut into 8 slices)
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp mirin (optional)
- 4 sheets sushi nori (cut in half)
- 1 tbsp furikake seasoning (optional)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Rice:
- Cook sushi rice according to package instructions.
- Let it cool slightly before handling.
2. Caramelize the Spam:
- Heat a pan over medium heat and cook Spam slices until crispy on both sides.
- Add soy sauce, sugar, and mirin, stirring to coat.
- Let the Spam caramelize for 1–2 minutes, then remove from heat.
3. Assemble the Musubi:
- Place a half-sheet of nori on a clean surface.
- Use a musubi mold (or a Spam can lined with plastic wrap) to press a layer of rice onto the nori.
- Sprinkle with furikake seasoning if desired.
- Place a caramelized Spam slice on top of the rice.
- Wrap the nori around the musubi, sealing the edge with a bit of water.
4. Serve & Enjoy:
- Let the musubi rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
- Enjoy warm or at room temperature!
Notes
- If you don’t have a musubi mold, press the rice firmly with your hands to shape it.
- Add a drizzle of teriyaki sauce for extra flavor!
