Beautifully swirled soft cookies combining earthy matcha, sweet strawberry, and creamy vanilla in a vibrant trio of color and flavor—crisp on the outside, tender inside.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp matcha green tea powder
  • 1 tbsp freeze-dried strawberry powder
  • Pink and green food coloring (optional, to enhance color)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla extract; mix until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until a soft dough forms.
  5. Divide the dough evenly into three portions.
  6. To one portion, mix in matcha powder and a few drops of green food coloring if desired.
  7. To the second portion, mix in strawberry powder and pink food coloring if desired.
  8. Leave the third portion plain for the vanilla dough. Chill all three doughs for 30 minutes.
  9. Roll each dough into small ropes. Press one of each color together side-by-side, then twist and roll to form a swirled log.
  10. Slice the dough log into 1/2-inch thick rounds and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  11. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10–12 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.
  12. Cool completely on a wire rack and store in an airtight container.

Notes

  • Chill dough before slicing to help maintain the swirled shape.
  • Use natural food powders for color and flavor without artificial dyes.
  • Cookies freeze well—store unbaked logs for up to 1 month and slice as needed.
