Buttery Strawberry Jam Thumbprint Cookies are soft, melt-in-your-mouth shortbread treats filled with sweet strawberry jam. Perfect for holiday baking, festive gatherings, or cozy afternoons, these homemade cookies are an easy, delicious classic you’ll love!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened

  • 2/3 cup (135g) granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 cup strawberry jam (or your favorite fruit jam)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  3. Mix in the vanilla extract.

  4. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing just until the dough forms.

  5. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll into balls; place on prepared baking sheet.

  6. Press a deep indent into each ball using your thumb or the back of a small spoon.

  7. Fill each indentation generously with strawberry jam.

  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.

  9. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • You can use other fruit jams like raspberry, apricot, or blueberry.

  • For an extra festive touch, dust with powdered sugar after cooling.

  • Chill the dough for 20 minutes if it’s too soft for easier handling.
