Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb ribeye steak or flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 4 sesame seed rolls or sub rolls
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 1/2 cups provolone or mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Add olive oil and sauté the onions and mushrooms until softened and golden, about 8-10 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce (if using). Set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, cook the thinly sliced steak for 2-3 minutes per side until browned and cooked to your liking. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  3. Lightly toast the sesame seed rolls in a separate pan or under the broiler until golden brown.
  4. Melt the butter on the rolls and assemble the sandwich.
  5. Layer the cooked steak, grilled onions, and mushrooms on the bottom half of each roll, and top with a generous amount of shredded cheese.
  6. Place the sandwiches under the broiler or return to the skillet for 1-2 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • If you prefer a spicier kick, add some jalapeños or hot sauce to the sandwich.
  • You can also swap provolone for cheddar or Swiss cheese depending on your preference.
  • For a richer flavor, try adding a drizzle of balsamic glaze over the grilled onions and mushrooms.
