Ingredients

Scale

For Snowflake Tortilla Chips

  • Flour tortillas (6-inch size, 8 tortillas)
  • Cooking spray (olive oil or vegetable oil spray, as needed)
  • Sea salt (to taste)

For Queso Dip

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese (such as cheddar or a blend)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground chili powder or cayenne (optional, for a mild kick)
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the tortillas: Fold each flour tortilla into quarters, similar to folding a paper snowflake.
  2. Create snowflake patterns: Using sharp kitchen scissors, carefully snip small shapes along the folded edges to design delicate snowflake patterns.
  3. Unfold and arrange: Unfold the tortillas and place them flat on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Season the chips: Lightly mist the tortilla snowflakes with cooking spray and sprinkle evenly with sea salt.
  5. Bake the chips: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the chips for 6–8 minutes, or until they are crisp and lightly golden around the edges.
  6. Prepare the queso dip: In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute to form a roux. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly until smooth and thickened. Add shredded cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, and salt. Stir until cheese is fully melted and the dip is creamy and smooth.
  7. Serve: Place the warm queso dip in a festive bowl and arrange the snowflake tortilla chips around it. Enjoy as a fun and festive snack at your holiday party.

Notes

  • Use sharp kitchen scissors for precise and clean snowflake cuts.
  • Experiment with different types of cheese or add jalapeños for a spicy queso variation.
  • These chips are best served fresh and warm for optimal crispness.
  • Store leftover chips in an airtight container to maintain crunchiness.
  • To speed up prep, you can pre-make the queso dip and reheat gently before serving.
