Crispy, golden-fried shrimp and mixed vegetables coated in a light, seasoned batter, served with a zesty dipping sauce. A perfect Italian-inspired appetizer or snack!

For the Fritto Misto:

  • 1/2 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/2 cup sparkling water or club soda
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 small zucchini, sliced into thin strips
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

For the Dipping Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)

Instructions

1. Prepare for Frying:

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).

2. Make the Batter:

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper.
  2. Gradually whisk in sparkling water until a smooth batter forms.

3. Fry the Shrimp & Vegetables:

  1. Dip shrimp, bell peppers, and zucchini into the batter, shaking off excess.
  2. Fry in batches for 2-3 minutes, until golden and crispy.
  3. Remove and drain on paper towels.

4. Make the Dipping Sauce:

  1. In a small bowl, mix all dipping sauce ingredients until smooth.

5. Serve:

  1. Serve the crispy shrimp and vegetables hot with the dipping sauce and lemon wedges.
