These Polish Kolaczki Cookies are delicate, flaky pastries made with a simple cream cheese dough and filled with colorful fruit preserves. A nostalgic Eastern European holiday cookie that’s buttery, beautiful, and dusted with powdered sugar for a festive touch.
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup fruit preserves or jam (apricot, raspberry, prune, or your favorite)
Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
In a large bowl, beat together cream cheese and butter until light and fluffy.
Gradually add flour and mix until a soft dough forms.
Divide dough in half, wrap in plastic, and chill for at least 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Roll out dough on a floured surface to about 1/8-inch thickness. Cut into 2-inch squares.
Place a small amount (about 1/2 teaspoon) of jam in the center of each square.
Fold two opposite corners of the dough toward the center, overlapping slightly and pressing to seal.
Bake for 12–15 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
Let cool completely, then dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Don’t overfill the cookies to prevent jam from leaking.
Use thick fruit preserves for best results.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
