Units Scale

Cake

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Filling & Icing

  • 1 cup cream cheese frosting (store-bought or homemade)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 drop pink gel food coloring

Decoration

  • 1/2 cup pink candy melts
  • Cupcake liners for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cake Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, then add eggs one at a time. Fold in flour, baking powder, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Pour the batter into the pan and bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely.
  2. Fill the Cake Once cooled, slice the cake in half horizontally and spread a thin layer of cream cheese frosting between layers. Chill in the freezer for 10-15 minutes for easier cutting.
  3. Cut Heart Shapes Use a small heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes from the cake. Gently press from the bottom to remove them cleanly.
  4. Make the Icing In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Add a drop of pink gel food coloring and mix well to achieve a pastel pink shade.
  5. Coat the Petit Fours Place heart-shaped cakes on a cooling rack. Pour icing over each heart, letting it drip down the sides. Allow the icing to set for 1-2 minutes.
  6. Decorate Melt pink candy melts in a microwave-safe piping bag, snip the end, and drizzle over the petit fours. Let them set before serving.
  7. Serve Place each petit four in a cupcake liner and enjoy.
