Ingredients

Scale

Eggs and Filling

  • 12 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar

Decoration

  • Paprika, for dusting
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh chives
  • 1 tablespoon micro-diced red bell pepper
  • Cheddar cheese block, chilled, cut into tiny rectangles
  • Piping bag, for filling

Instructions

  1. Boil and Prepare Eggs: Place the eggs in a pot, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Once boiling, turn off the heat and cover the pot, letting the eggs sit for 10-12 minutes. Then, transfer the eggs to an ice bath to cool, peel them carefully, and slice each egg in half lengthwise.
  2. Make the Filling: Scoop the yolks into a medium bowl. Add mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and white vinegar, then mash and mix thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  3. Fill the Eggs: Transfer the yolk mixture into a piping bag. Pipe the filling neatly back into the egg white halves, creating well-defined mounds that resemble ornaments.
  4. Decorate: Lightly dust the top of each filled egg with paprika to create colorful ring designs. Add small dots of minced chives and micro-diced red pepper to mimic ornament patterns and add festive color.
  5. Add Cheese Caps: Cut tiny rectangles from the chilled cheddar cheese block. Press one rectangle gently on top of each egg to form the ornament ‘caps,’ completing the festive look.

Notes

  • Ensure eggs are thoroughly cooled before peeling to prevent tearing the whites.
  • The piping bag creates a clean, professional look for the filling—use a star tip if desired for added texture.
  • Chilling the cheddar cheese before cutting helps in making uniform tiny rectangles.
  • Feel free to experiment with other toppings to create varied ornament designs.
  • To make it easier for kids to enjoy, consider using mild cheddar or alternative cheeses.
