A crispy, golden fried chicken cutlet layered with savory ham and melted Swiss cheese, inspired by the classic Sizzler favorite. Served with a creamy honey mustard sauce for a nostalgic, comforting dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (pounded evenly)
  • 6 slices deli ham
  • 12 slices Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 12 cups Panko breadcrumbs (lightly crushed)
  • 2 tsp Cajun seasoning (e.g., Slap Ya Mama®)
  • 2 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tsp honey

Instructions

  1. Place each chicken breast between plastic wrap and pound to an even thickness.
  2. Prepare three shallow bowls: flour in the first; beaten buttermilk and egg in the second; and Panko breadcrumbs mixed with Cajun seasoning, garlic salt, onion powder, black pepper, paprika, and red pepper flakes in the third.
  3. Pat chicken dry. Dredge in flour, dip in buttermilk mixture, and coat in seasoned Panko breadcrumbs.
  4. Heat oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry chicken in batches for 6–8 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place fried chicken on a baking sheet. Top each with 1 slice of Swiss cheese, 1 slice of ham, and another slice of Swiss cheese.
  6. Bake for 5 minutes or until cheese is melted.
  7. In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, yellow mustard, and honey until smooth.
  8. Serve hot chicken with the honey mustard sauce on the side or drizzled over top.

Notes

  • Pounding the chicken ensures even cooking and crispier results.
  • Use smoked ham or honey ham for a flavor twist.
  • To lighten it up, try baking instead of frying, though the texture will differ.
