Make Hawaiian Spam Musubi at home with this easy and delicious recipe! Caramelized Spam glazed in a sweet-savory sauce is paired with seasoned sushi rice and wrapped in nori for the perfect grab-and-go snack. A classic Hawaiian favorite, this musubi is great for lunch, picnics, or a quick bite anytime!

For the Musubi:

  • 2 cups cooked sushi rice
  • 1 can Spam (cut into 8 slices)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp mirin (optional)
  • 4 sheets sushi nori (cut in half)
  • 1 tbsp furikake seasoning (optional)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Rice:

  • Cook sushi rice according to package instructions.
  • Let it cool slightly before handling.

2. Caramelize the Spam:

  • Heat a pan over medium heat and cook Spam slices until crispy on both sides.
  • Add soy sauce, sugar, and mirin, stirring to coat.
  • Let the Spam caramelize for 1–2 minutes, then remove from heat.

3. Assemble the Musubi:

  • Place a half-sheet of nori on a clean surface.
  • Use a musubi mold (or a Spam can lined with plastic wrap) to press a layer of rice onto the nori.
  • Sprinkle with furikake seasoning if desired.
  • Place a caramelized Spam slice on top of the rice.
  • Wrap the nori around the musubi, sealing the edge with a bit of water.

4. Serve & Enjoy:

  • Let the musubi rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
  • Enjoy warm or at room temperature!

Notes

  • If you don’t have a musubi mold, press the rice firmly with your hands to shape it.
  • Add a drizzle of teriyaki sauce for extra flavor!
  • Wrap each musubi in plastic wrap for a convenient on-the-go snack.
