Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp matcha green tea powder
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp matcha powder
  • 23 tbsp milk (adjust for consistency)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a donut pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and matcha powder.
  3. In another bowl, mix buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients, stirring just until incorporated—do not overmix.
  5. Spoon or pipe the batter into the donut pan, filling each cavity about 3/4 full.
  6. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until lightly golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool in pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. For the glaze, whisk powdered sugar and matcha with milk until smooth and pourable.
  9. Dip cooled donuts into the glaze and let set for 10–15 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use high-quality matcha for the best color and flavor.
  • Do not overmix the batter to keep donuts light and fluffy.
  • Adjust milk in the glaze to get your desired consistency.
  • Best enjoyed the same day for optimal texture.
