Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the waffle iron and lightly grease with nonstick spray or butter.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and whisk just until smooth. Do not overmix.
  5. Pour about 1/3 to 1/2 cup of batter into the center of the waffle iron and cook for 3–5 minutes, or until golden and crisp.
  6. Remove waffles and set aside on a wire rack to cool slightly.
  7. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and pourable.
  8. Dip the top of each warm (not hot) waffle into the glaze or spoon it over the top.
  9. Let the glaze set for 3–5 minutes before serving.
  10. Serve warm with coffee, milk, or fresh fruit if desired.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the batter to keep waffles tender.
  • Let waffles cool slightly before glazing to prevent the glaze from melting off.
  • Use a wire rack to avoid soggy bottoms as they cool.
