Ingredients

Units Scale
  • For the crust:
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 cup ice water
  • For the filling:
  • 6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (Granny Smith or Gala apples work well)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the topping:
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Whipped cream (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9-inch pie dish.
  2. To make the crust, combine the flour, salt, and sugar in a large bowl. Add the cold cubed butter and mix using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add the ice water, mixing until a dough forms. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface and press it into the prepared pie dish. Trim any excess dough around the edges.
  4. For the filling, toss the apple slices with sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, cornstarch, and vanilla extract. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust.
  5. Drizzle the melted butter and heavy cream over the apple filling to add richness.
  6. Bake the pie for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  7. Let the pie cool slightly before serving with a generous dollop of whipped cream.

Notes

  • Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for a well-balanced flavor.
  • If you prefer a more caramelized topping, bake the pie for a few extra minutes.
  • For a twist, add a sprinkle of caramelized sugar on top before serving.
