Cruller Dough

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 3 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp water or milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine butter, milk, sugar, and salt; stir until melted but do not boil.
  3. Add Flour and Baking Powder: Remove from heat and add flour and baking powder all at once; stir vigorously until a dough forms.
  4. Cool and Add Eggs: Allow to cool for a few minutes before incorporating eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until smooth.
  5. Pipe Dough: Transfer dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe ‘U’ shapes onto the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake and Glaze: Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly before glazing by dipping each cruller into the mixture of powdered sugar and water or milk.
