These Easy French Dip Sandwiches are the ultimate comfort food — tender roast beef, melty provolone, and caramelized onions on warm French rolls, served with a rich, homemade au jus. A quick, satisfying meal perfect for lunch, dinner, or game day gatherings.
1 1/4 lb deli-style roast beef, thinly sliced
1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
2 tsp granulated garlic
2 cups low-sodium beef broth
2 tbsp low-sodium tamari
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Kosher salt, to taste
Olive oil spray
4 French rolls
6 slices sharp provolone cheese
Heat a skillet sprayed with olive oil over medium heat. Add onions and cook until soft and slightly caramelized, about 7–8 minutes.
Stir in granulated garlic, beef broth, tamari, Worcestershire sauce, and a pinch of kosher salt. Bring to a gentle simmer.
Add sliced roast beef and warm in the broth for 5–6 minutes on low heat. Do not boil.
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice French rolls and lay them open-faced on a baking sheet.
Use tongs to pile the warm roast beef onto the bottom halves of the rolls. Top with onions and provolone slices.
Bake open-faced for 5 minutes or until the cheese melts. Top with the remaining roll halves.
Strain the broth and pour into small bowls for dipping. Serve sandwiches hot with au jus.
Substitute Swiss or mozzarella if you prefer a milder cheese.
Add horseradish or Dijon mustard for a little zing.
Great for prepping ahead—just reheat the beef and au jus before assembling.
