Ingredients

  • 6 fresh sardines, cleaned and gutted

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/2 tsp onion powder

  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme

  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)

  • Salt and black pepper to taste

  • Juice of 1/2 lemon

To Serve:

  • Lemon wedges

  • Fresh herbs (like parsley or dill)

Instructions

  1. Prep the Sardines:
    Pat sardines dry thoroughly with paper towels to ensure crispy skin.

  2. Season:
    In a bowl, mix olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, cayenne (if using), salt, and pepper. Rub the mixture all over the sardines, inside and out.

  3. Preheat Air Fryer:
    Heat air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3–5 minutes.

  4. Air Fry:
    Arrange sardines in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway, until skin is golden and blistered.

  5. Finish & Serve:
    Drizzle with fresh lemon juice and serve hot with lemon wedges and fresh herbs.
