These Classic Spiral-Cut Hot Dogs offer a juicy twist on a nostalgic favorite, featuring crisped spiral franks nestled in buttery toasted buns with fresh lettuce, ketchup, and whole grain mustard. Ideal for summer BBQs, cozy movie nights, or retro-themed comfort food cravings.
4 beef hot dogs
4 hot dog buns
4 leaves green leaf lettuce
1/4 cup ketchup
2 tbsp whole grain mustard
1 tbsp butter (for toasting buns)
Optional: cherry tomatoes on the side
Use a paring knife to carefully cut each hot dog in a spiral motion, rotating as you slice. Avoid cutting all the way through.
Grill or pan-fry the hot dogs over medium heat for 5–6 minutes, until browned and edges are crisp.
Spread a thin layer of butter on the insides of the buns and lightly toast them until golden.
Line each bun with a leaf of lettuce. Nestle the spiral-cut hot dogs into the buns.
Drizzle ketchup and whole grain mustard in a zig-zag over each dog.
Serve hot with cherry tomatoes or chips on the side.
Spiral-cutting increases surface area for better browning and holds sauces perfectly.
For added crunch, try adding crispy onions or pickles.
Works well with chicken, turkey, or plant-based hot dogs too.
Perfect for casual gatherings, lunchboxes, or grilling nights.
