Ingredients

Units Scale

Donut Dough

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp butter (softened)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Oil for frying

Chocolate Glaze

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp butter

Topping

  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate candies (such as M&M’s)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast In a bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Prepare the dough Add flour, remaining sugar, egg, butter, and salt. Knead until smooth and elastic (about 8–10 minutes).
  3. First rise Cover and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  4. Shape donuts Roll dough to about ½ inch thickness and cut into donut shapes.
  5. Second rise Let the donuts rise again for 30 minutes.
  6. Fry donuts Heat oil to 175°C (350°F) and fry donuts 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  7. Prepare chocolate glaze Heat heavy cream and pour over chocolate chips. Stir until smooth and glossy, then add butter.
  8. Glaze donuts Dip each donut into the chocolate glaze while slightly warm.
  9. Add toppings Sprinkle colorful candy-coated chocolates over the glaze before it sets.
  10. Serve Allow glaze to set slightly and enjoy these fun chocolate donuts.

Notes

  • Decorate immediately after glazing so the candies stick well.
  • Donuts taste best fresh the same day.
  • You can also bake the donuts at 180°C (350°F) for 12–15 minutes instead of frying.
  • Add chocolate chips to the dough for an extra chocolate flavor.
