These Cherry Hand Pies are festive, tree-shaped treats filled with luscious cherry pie filling, sealed in buttery pie crust, and sprinkled with coarse sugar for a sparkling golden finish. Perfect for cookie trays, holiday parties, or edible gifting!

Ingredients

  • Pie crust dough (homemade or store-bought)

  • Cherry pie filling

  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)

  • Coarse sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Roll out pie dough to about 1/8-inch thickness. Use a cookie cutter to cut out tree or desired shapes in pairs.

  3. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of cherry filling onto the center of half the cutouts.

  4. Place a second piece of dough over the filling, pressing edges to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges securely.

  5. Brush tops with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar.

  6. Cut a small vent slit in the top of each hand pie to allow steam to escape.

  7. Bake for 18–22 minutes or until golden brown and bubbling slightly.

  8. Cool slightly before serving or packaging.

Notes

  • Use thick filling to avoid leaks—drain excess liquid from pie filling if needed.

  • Swap cherry with apple, raspberry, or your favorite seasonal jam.

  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for longer freshness.
