Crusty garlic bread rolls stuffed with tender meatballs, rich marinara sauce, and bubbling melted mozzarella—these homemade meatball subs are the ultimate comfort food and party favorite.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 12 Italian-style meatballs (homemade or frozen, cooked)
  • 3 sub rolls or hoagie buns
  • 1 1/2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. In a small bowl, mix melted butter with minced garlic and Italian seasoning.
  3. Slice sub rolls lengthwise without cutting all the way through. Brush the insides with garlic butter.
  4. Place 4 meatballs inside each roll and spoon marinara sauce over the top.
  5. Sprinkle generously with shredded mozzarella and a pinch of Parmesan, if using.
  6. Arrange subs in the baking dish and bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and edges of the bread are crisp.
  7. Serve hot with your favorite side dishes like chips, salad, or roasted veggies.

Notes

  • Use toasted sub rolls for extra crunch and stability.
  • Customize with provolone or spicy pepper jack instead of mozzarella.
  • Homemade or frozen meatballs both work—just ensure they’re fully cooked.
  • Great for meal prep—assemble and refrigerate until ready to bake.
