Instructions

  1. Preheat & Prepare – Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 8-inch cake pans.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients – In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and sugar.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients – Add melted butter, eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  4. Bake the Cake – Divide batter evenly between prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Cool & Layer – Let cakes cool completely. Spread cherry preserves on one cake layer, then top with whipped cream. Place the second cake layer on top and repeat.
