This indulgent Bananas Foster is a show-stopping New Orleans classic—featuring golden caramelized bananas, toasted pecans, and a rich brown sugar-rum sauce flambéed to perfection and served over creamy vanilla ice cream. It’s warm, buttery, boozy, and incredibly easy to make in just 15 minutes!
2 ripe bananas, halved lengthwise
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 cup dark rum
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/3 cup toasted pecans
Vanilla ice cream, for serving
Make the Sauce:
In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in brown sugar and cinnamon. Cook while stirring constantly for 2–3 minutes until smooth and slightly thickened.
Add Bananas:
Gently place banana halves into the pan. Cook for 1–2 minutes per side, spooning sauce over them as they cook.
Flambé (Optional):
Carefully add dark rum and vanilla extract. If desired and safe, ignite the rum with a long lighter to flambé. Allow flames to subside naturally.
Add Pecans:
Stir in toasted pecans and cook for 1 more minute.
Serve:
Scoop vanilla ice cream into bowls and top with warm bananas and spoonfuls of the brown sugar rum sauce. Serve immediately.
Always flambé safely—turn off burner and use a long match/lighter if doing so.
Try swapping pecans for walnuts or hazelnuts for variation.
Best served immediately for optimal contrast of hot and cold.
