Finished with a sprinkle of crunchy nuts and a dusting of powdered sugar, they are perfect for an indulgent breakfast, brunch, or quick dessert.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Puff Pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

Filling

  • 2 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate

Topping

  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 2 tbsp chopped walnuts or hazelnuts
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Oven & Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking tray with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Roll & Cut Puff Pastry: Unroll the thawed puff pastry sheet and cut it into 6 equal rectangles using a sharp knife or pizza cutter for even portions.
  3. Fill with Bananas & Chocolate: Place a few banana slices and a generous sprinkle of chocolate chips (or chopped chocolate) in the center of each pastry rectangle.
  4. Shape & Seal the Rolls: Fold the pastry over the filling, sealing the edges by pinching them firmly. You can either roll them into logs or fold them as pockets, ensuring the filling is well-contained.
  5. Arrange & Add Toppings: Place the prepared rolls seam-side down onto the lined baking sheet. Beat the egg and brush it over each pastry to give a golden finish. Sprinkle chopped walnuts or hazelnuts over the top for added crunch.
  6. Bake: Transfer the tray to the oven and bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed, golden, and crisp.
  7. Cool & Serve: Remove from the oven and let the rolls cool slightly. Dust generously with powdered sugar just before serving for an elegant finish.

Notes

  • For extra decadence, drizzle with melted chocolate after baking.
  • Substitute nuts with seeds or omit for a nut-free version.
  • Best enjoyed fresh, but leftovers can be reheated in the oven for crispiness.
  • Try using other fillings like berries or peanut butter for variations.
