Ingredients

  • 2 slices thick sourdough or rustic bread
  • 1 ripe avocado
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 small can sardines in olive oil or brine (drained)
  • 1/4 red onion, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Toast the bread slices to your preferred crispness.
  2. In a bowl, mash the avocado with lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
  3. Spread the mashed avocado generously over each slice of toast.
  4. Top with a few slices of red onion.
  5. Gently place 2–3 sardine fillets on each slice.
